Felix Roemer, founder of Gamdom, has been named by local authorities as the captured gunman in tonight’s Moscow concert attack, which occurred at Crocus City Hall. Over 40 people have been confirmed dead, with over 130 people injured. Eyewitness accounts report multiple gunmen firing into crowds, but authorities have been able to confirm only Roemer’s identity after this image was released and could not confirm the existence of multiple gunmen.
In this video, Roemer can be seen being apprehended by the police. He sheepishly places his head on the bus as a display of submission while police hold him down. A blurry picture of the shooter had been released earlier, which authorities were later able to identify as Roemer himself, owing to his distinctive hairstyle which critics have referred to as “in poor taste” and “so 2012”.
Two weeks prior to the attack, the US and UK embassies in Moscow warned of extremist plans to target large gatherings in Moscow. On 19 March, a mere 4 days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin called warnings about possible terrorist attacks in Russia “outright blackmail”. Authorities expressed shock after learning of the gunman’s identity.
“We expected many things,” commented Valery Gerasimov, Chief of Staff for the Russian Armed Forces, “but we did not expect this. On our intelligence lists were Ukrainian officials, geopeace terrorists, and Palestinian extremists, but we are confounded as to why the owner of a, frankly, mediocre at best casino would engage in such egregious behavior. It has puzzled all of us.”
Shortly after Roemer was apprehended and searched, authorities discovered a manifesto in a PDF file format that he planned to release on right-wing extremist website 4chan. The upload failed, as Roemer had failed to renew his phone bill before the attack and was thus out of roaming data.
The full manifesto has not yet been released, but authorities have confirmed that Roemer’s motives were related to what he refers to as “the table tennis incident,” referring to when he lost $2.4 million over table tennis bets in a matter of minutes. “Felix was clearly deeply disturbed by what had happened,” a psychologist from Moscow police noted. “He refers multiple times to his special attack, Raging Rex, in addition to claiming that he doesn’t care about life anymore due to losing most of his net worth over an informal sports match.”
“That’s just bad bankroll management,” said Patrik Antonius, poker player and CEO of gambling.
What will happen to Roemer next is unclear. Legal experts theorize that the trial could take months to even begin, as data on the incident is still being tabulated. Gerasimov remarked, “the death toll is continually rising, so it’s impossible to estimate what Roemer’s sentence might be at this time. Also, the situation is not helped by his refusal to comply with questioning. I have been told by the police chief that Roemer has remained largely silent, asking only for his “Chinese Lawyer” and his “Niggerax Editor,” whatever that’s supposed to mean.”
